Content Reuse

Content reuse in Skribenta is based on a few very powerful mechanisms.

  • Inclusion. Decide what content should and should not be included. Skribenta allows you to do this with easy links and several levels.
  • Characteristics and conditions. This information is supplemented with variables and conditions so that it can be reused based on different contexts, such as model numbers.
  • Recipes. Variables for a given model are defined in what Skribenta calls a recipe.

Many different thoughts exist about how, and to what level, content should be reused. Some argue that the sentence level is the basis for re-use (memory phrase), whereas some professionals argue that it is at the topic level (DITA).

In Skribenta there are no restrictions. All content, at whatever level (paragraph, table, list, chaper, sub-chapter and so forth) can be reused. One example is when a warning needs to be included and maintained in a single file. All the writer has to do is point to the warning, which has a unique ID, from any level of content and it will be included. Since there is only one master location for the warning, if it needs to be changed, this will be automatically updated across all content. You can also quickly and easily list in which documents the content chunk is located.
